Maria Meijburg has spent the last nine years developing safer systems in the autonomous driving, robotics, and automotive industries. Throughout her career as a Functional Safety expert, human-centered development has been a main theme, ranging from operator-first safety practices to developing clear and presentable safety cases. Her career started at Jaguar Land Rover in the UK as the first Functional Safety Engineer in the ADAS department, delivering active safety and advanced cruise control systems into production. When Maria joined nuTonomy (Motional) she led safety case development for driverless autonomous vehicles, worked on incorporating SOTIF and data-driven driverless validation into safety and assurance cases, drove collaborations with governments and standards organizations in Singapore and the US, and made key contributions to Singapore’s first autonomous driving standard (Singapore TR 68, 2018). Before joining Nuro, Maria led safety assessments, validation data strategy and safety case creation for autonomous yard trucking at Outrider. Now, as an Autonomy Systems Engineer at Nuro, Maria is responsible for a portfolio of projects around safe autonomy and human-machine systems.
