Apeksha is Gatik’s Chief Engineer and has expertise in building full-stack solutions for self-driving cars. Her research areas include deep learning, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, AI and remote sensing.
Prior to this, Apeksha was the Head of Perception at Ford Motor Company’s self-driving car unit. Her research focus was on using deep learning algorithms for perception, prediction and planning in autonomous driving scenarios. She designed effective and efficient feature detection methods to assist with online localization and developed perception algorithms for multi-object detection, tracking, and classification.
She has also held the role of Lead Machine Learning Engineer at Otsaw Digital where she designed and developed state-of-the-art convolutional neural network based perception algorithms. Besides this, Apeksha has worked on real-time image understanding, introducing multi-scale convolutional neural networks and a custom hardware architecture for deep learning.
Ms. Kumavat is an expert in HPC, advanced parallelized compute systems and design of complex machine learning algorithms for autonomous vehicles. She has contributed towards research and innovation at several organizations including Ford Motor Company (USA), Purdue University (USA), CNH Industrials (USA) and Siemens (India). She has extensive experience in developing systems using statistical machine learning techniques as well as deep learning based techniques using mainstream frameworks like Tensorflow, Keras and Nvidia’s Caffe.
Apeksha earned her M.S. (with a focus on Machine/Deep Learning) from Purdue University.
